Yeppon Flood Plain Highway Upgrade, QLD
Caporn Piling proudly contributed to the Yeppen Floodplain Upgrade, a key component of the Bruce Highway Action Plan aimed at improving flood resilience, safety, and efficiency for Queensland’s critical transport network. This project upgraded the flood-prone Bruce and Burnett Highway intersection with 2.2km of new Q100 elevated bridges, ensuring traffic moves efficiently during significant flood events.
Project Scope
Caporn Piling’s work included:
Installation of 1,291 precast concrete piles (550mm diameter, up to 40m long) to support the elevated carriageway.
Equipment Utilized
Woltman THW 7528-D for precision pile driving.
Crane-Leader Mode Manitowoc M12000 for complex piling configurations.
2 x Hydraulic Hammers (NAC 16T + NAC 16M) for efficient driving operations.
2 x Manitowoc M12000 crawler cranes and 1 x Manitowoc M8500 crawler crane for heavy lifting requirements.
Client
John Holland
Project Details
The Yeppen Floodplain Upgrade features:
Duplication of the Bruce Highway on an elevated crossing, rising 3.5 metres higher than the previous alignment.
The new carriageway extends from the Burnett Highway intersection through to the Bruce and Capricorn Highways roundabout, creating a high-level floodplain crossing on Rockhampton’s southern approach.
Project Benefits
Improved flood immunity up to a Q100 flood event, ensuring year-round freight and passenger traffic movement.
Reduced congestion and enhanced efficiency for transport networks.
Improved safety through separation of northbound and southbound traffic.
Significant economic benefits by maintaining freight access to and from Rockhampton during severe weather conditions.
